Maharashtra Professional Tax: New Payment Facility & Slab Updates
Key Changes for PTEC and PTRC Taxpayers (FY 2024-25)
The Government of Maharashtra has introduced a new "Pay Your Taxes" facility that allows taxpayers to settle their Professional Tax without logging in. While the system is transitioning, it is crucial for businesses and professionals to understand their liabilities before the March 31st, 2026 deadline.
1. The New "No-Login" Payment Facility
Taxpayers can now pay PT directly via the "Pay Your Taxes" tab on the official portal.
Available for: Both PTRC (Employers) and PTEC (Individuals/Professionals).
Important Note: Currently, PAN-based payments and PT Registration views are temporarily unavailable. It is recommended to use the Existing (Old) System if you encounter technical issues.

2. Understanding PTEC vs. PTRC
PTEC (Professional Tax Enrollment Certificate)
Who: Traders, Professionals (CAs, Doctors, Lawyers), and Self-Employed individuals.
The Requirement: A flat tax of ₹2,500 per year.
Deadline: Must be paid by 31st March 2026 for the current financial year.
PTRC (Professional Tax Registration Certificate)
Who: Employers (Companies, Partnership Firms, GST Registered Employers) who pay salaries.
The Requirement: Taxes are deducted from employees' salaries and deposited by the employer.
Due Date: FY 2024-25 Returns must be filed by 31st March 2026.

3. PTRC Salary Slabs (Monthly Tax)
The tax deducted from an employee's salary depends on their monthly income and gender:
Monthly Salary Range | Tax for Men | Tax for Women |
Up to ₹7,500 | NIL | NIL |
₹7,501 – ₹10,000 | ₹175 | NIL |
₹10,001 – ₹25,000 | ₹200 | NIL |
Above ₹25,000 | ₹200 | ₹200 |
4. System Transition & Auto-Mapping
If you have already made payments through the old system, there is no cause for concern. The department has confirmed that all previous payments will be auto-mapped to your new registration details automatically.
Expert Advisory
"While the new 'No-Login' facility is a great step toward ease of compliance, the temporary unavailability of PAN-based views can be tricky. We advise all our clients to complete their PTEC and PTRC payments well before the March 31st rush to avoid last-minute portal glitches. If you have already paid via the old system, ensure you keep the challans safe until the auto-mapping is reflected."
